Town Mountain Road Ride (Asheville Cycling Routes): A classic road ride with a 1500-foot climb up Town Mountain that begins on the edge of downtown. The twisty ride features cityscape and mountain views. Hook it up with the Blue Ridge Parkway (north) and descend the steep Elk Mountain for a 30+ mile “in town” ride.
Directions from Asheville: This ride is downtown off College Street right before you get to the Beaucatcher Tunnel east of downtown Asheville. Turn left off of College Street onto Town Mountain Road. Look for street or public parking on College Street.
brutal climb up Town Mountain, but once you get to the top there are lots of options..Love coming down Elk Mountain …. Has to be the best downhill you can do on a road bike: twisty s turns, switchbacks, and high speed rollers back into town.. and of course the other option is to go up to Craggy Gardens as well, which has some sweet views from the parkway.
