107 Boulders | Western Carolina University

107 Boulders | Western Carolina University: The 107 Boulders are located just a short drive from Western Carolina University in Cullowhee and make for a fun local climbing spot about 20 minutes from the college campus at Western Carolina University. The boulders get their name from Highway 107 as they’re located adjacent to the road with a very easy approach. The boulders get afternoon shade and are north facing, which helps extend the climbing season and make for bearable climbing conditions throughout most of the year.

Be prepared to lose some skin as the boulders are generally fairly sharp and are comprised of conglomerate granite that can be fairly pebbly and tough on the skin. There is a good range of problems ranging from V0 to V10 with a total of around 40 problems.

Directions From Asheville: Head West on I-40 to the town of Sylva. From Sylva, drive on 107 S and pass Western Carolina University after about 5 minutes. The boulders are located around 20 minutes beyond Western. Look for a recycling center on the right side of the road that is immediately before the boulders and can be found once the road returns to two lanes.

Directions From Brevard: Head to West to Cashiers, NC and turn right onto Highway 107 and drive approximately 7 miles north on to the obvious boulders on the left side of the road.
