Graybeard Trail

Graybeard Hiking Trail

Graybeard Hiking Trail (Black Mountain): This adventure heads east of Asheville to the Montreat Conference Center. At 2,500 acres of pristine wilderness open and ready for an awesome outdoor experience.  The landmass of the Montreat community, as a whole, is approximately 4,000 acres, and is an important corridor for access to the wilderness beyond its borders.  Graybeard Trail up to summit of Graybeard Mountain offers views of Mount Mitchell and many other surrounding mountains.  The trail is a pretty long moderate trail with switchbacks and views.  Perfect for a day hike solo, or with the family and dog.  Along the way, there will be lots of little water crossings and a bonus waterfall in the middle of the switchbacks.

Directions from Asheville:  Merge onto I-240 E. Use the left 2 lanes to merge onto I-40 E toward Statesville. Take exit 64 for N Carolina 9 toward Black Mountain/Montreat. Continue on NC-9 N to your destination. Turn left onto NC-9 N. Continue onto Assembly Dr. Assembly Dr turns slightly left and becomes Greybeard Trail.
