Adventure Guide to Hiking Little Sugarloaf

  • Trail Location and Overview
The trailhead starts off at the Sugarloaf Trailhead parking lot, accessible from Coffee Pot Drive in west Sedona. Hikers head to the Sugarloaf Loop Trail, which connects to the Little Sugarloaf summit path. At just 1.2 miles round trip, it is moderate in difficulty with manageable elevation and a clear, well-maintained path.

  • Highlights and Scenic Features
The summit of Little Sugarloaf offers panoramic views of Sedona's most notable landmarks, including Chimney Rock and Thunder Mountain to the north and west. Additionally, you’ll find a peaceful ambiance as this trail tends to be less crowded than Sedona’s more famous hikes. The dramatic red rock vistas paired with the desert vegetation, including junipers and prickly pear cacti, make it perfect for photography or quiet reflection.

  • Other Notable Features
The connecting trails, like Teacup Trail, give more adventurous hikers the opportunity to extend the hike into a longer loop without straying too far from their starting point. Several shaded sections offer respite during warmer days, and the trail’s proximity to town allows for easy post-hike relaxation or dining options.

A great place to go for a day hike. Little steeper at the end. If you are lucky you will see a full rainbow 🌈

A 40 minute, 2.5km (in total) hike for anyone with good general fitness. Plenty of space for a rest and picnic at the top. One side of the path starts from Bohilla Lane with a small amount of side road parking. The walk is short & well marked but it is quite steep at parts with loose rocks all the way. Amazing views of Irish Sea and the coast line as well as Sugar Loaf.

Great hike! It takes around 40 min to reach the top. Has an amazing view from Bray and Greystones. Quiet and peaceful, perfect to bring a book, some snacks, and coffee to chill out at the peak.
