Dupont State Forest Family Adventures

Dupont State Forest Family Adventures

Dupont State Forest: In Transylvania County, the place known as the Land of Waterfalls thanks to its high concentration of beautiful waterfalls, few places are as spectacular as DuPont State Forest. Few places in North Carolina offer the opportunity to view towering waterfalls in such close proximity as in DuPont State Recreational Forest. We recommend starting at the Hooker Falls parking area and crossing the Little River on the newly installed bridge before heading roughly 1 mile upstream (stay left at every fork) to reach the base of Triple Falls, an aptly named three-tiered waterfall that is a great place to explore. The most adventurous hikers can make their way along the river bank past the three falls to High Falls, a towering waterfall that is a popular swimming destination in summer. From here, hikers can either opt for the longer hike to Bridal Veil Falls by continuing past High Falls to take a left turn onto Buck Forest Road and pass through the covered bridge and proceed about 1 mile to a right turn on the road to Bridal Veil Falls, or opt to return to the Hooker Falls parking area by backtracking along the Triple Falls Trail. Once at Hooker Falls parking area, a short, 1/4-mile hike downstream leads to Hooker Falls, which pours into the beautiful and serene Cascade Lake. The base of Hooker Falls is a popular swimming destination and the large rocks found along the river bank make a great place to catch some rays, take a little dip in the river, or picnic on the rocks.

Directions: From the intersection of Highway 64/276/280 in Pisgah Forest, take Highway 64 towards Hendersonville. Take a right on Crab Creek Road and follow to a right on DuPont Road (the road name change to Staton Road before you reach the parking lot). Park in the Hooker Falls parking lot on the right.
