Nantahala River Gorge

The Nantahala Gorge: Enjoyed by canoeists, kayakers and rafters alike, the Nantahala River is one of the most popular rivers in the U.S.  Paddlers will enjoy 8 miles of Class II-III whitewater flowing through the Nantahala Gorge, an area revered by the Cherokee Indians. The word Nantahala itself means “middle sun” or “midday sun” in the Cherokee language.  With its crystal clear, Class II-III water, the Nantahala is the perfect river to enjoy with family and friends.  Trips are offered year-round, seven days a week. Please note, there is a minimum weight limit for children of 60 pounds or 7 years old, which is strictly enforced by the U.S. Forest Service.

Directions from Asheville: Take I-40 West to exit 27 which is Hwy 74. Continue on Hwy 74 and go past Bryson City to Wildwater’s Rafting outpost at 10345 Highway 19 South/74 West, Bryson City,  NC.
