I have been here only in winter. Whole lake was completely frozen. The thickness of frozen layer is about 12 inches. This is my first time here and I liked that so much. It was fun walking on its surface. Even the light weight vehicle can ride above this lake. There were many people drilling and fishing.

We were in Woods Loop #65 and #66, but I don't think you can go wrong with any of the sites in the Woods Loop. Cindy at the checkin station was a peach, helped us with several questions/accommodations during our stay, and with a smile! I also watched her handle a somewhat demanding/difficult customer with ease. Beautiful views, 30 minutes to main attractions (Rushmore, CrazyHorse, Custer SP, etc), restrooms and water spigots well placed so they're accessible from all campsites. NO showers or dump station, but see my review of Three Forks Campground for info about that. Thanks Cindy for the recommendation!

My favorite place to go every year as a seasonal worker at Mount Rushmore. Fishing is great. Bluegills were spawning & I caught 42 hand size of these fish.
