The Watauga River Lodge is truly a hidden gem! We read about the Lodge in a Garden & Gun magazine article appropriately entitled “The Other Montana,” extolling the virtues of flyfishing the Watauga River. The article specifically mentioned this lodge, and it did not disappoint! The cabins are right on the river. The accommodations are incredible and very comfortable. Brownie and his staff went out of their way to make us welcome. The fishing guides are incomparable—they’re patient and experienced, and everyone on our trip caught numerous trout thanks to their coaching. I cannot recommend this place enough!

The scenery was absolutely beautiful beside the rivers edge and the employees are very helpful and friendly. Attended a wedding late in the day and at dusk a campfire and the lighting around the reception area was just awesome to behold. The cabins at the lodge are very nice. I highly recommend a trip to see the beauty of it all.

This review is long overdue. I've stayed at WRL many times over the past 4 years. The picturesque gated property sits inside a long curve of the Watauga River that is overshadowed by a massive rock face on the other side of the river. Brownie is your personable and responsive host. His quality guides pick you up in the morning and bring you back to WRL, making your day stress-free. The cabins are spacious, well-appointed, and clean. The fire pit and bbq shack by the river are the perfect place to meet after a day of fishing and grill your favorite dinner. I appreciate the many great memories that Brownie and his guides have provided over the years, and you will too.

Beautiful location right on the river. Walk out your door and fish. The compound is beautiful and very laid back. Nice porches to sit on and watch the river go by. There are a group of guides associated with the lodge and it's its very well organized. The guide we had (Davis) was excellent. Only two things the you should be aware of - 1. They don't have internet available. and 2. There are no TVs. They do have good cell service so staying in touch is not a problem. I would highly recommend and I'm sure that well come back.

If you are considering a trip and reading this, just book it. You won’t be disappointed. The owners and staff are wonderful. The setting is bucolic. The guides are experienced. And it’s on the Trophy Section of the Watauga. Need I say more? Nope but I will ;-) The beds are also soooooo comfortable that you won’t want to go home to your own bed. This is true.
