I have lost count on the number of times I have climbed this peak, it is my favorite! The rout up the saddle to the East of the peak is the classic route. Be careful, the pitch is steep and hard packed. It is easy to get out of control going down if you are not careful. When you get to the saddle and turn left, you get to the chute, and about 2/3 of the way up, there is a cut to the left that is the typical route to the top. The alternate route (and my favorite) is to head to the top of Blue Lakes Pass, then turn North following the ridge to the top. I call this the North Ridge route (since it heads North), but I am not sure that is a common name. This route is not to be underestimated. I have had two people up there in past years that got freaked out due to the exposure of the route. It is not for the faint of heart, but the views are simply amazing. If you are comfortable near drop offs, and have no issue free climbing 10-15 feet on steep pitches, this is a route to consider, but not for the inexperienced or first time climbers. Pics are from North Ridge route. Caution: Check with local sources & guides before attempting either route. This information is just to give you a basic idea of what to expect. Respect the mountain and know your limits. People have died on this mountain, and many rescues have been required when people were not prepared.

We did a keep drive as far up as the road would allow. Be cautious of the occasional idiots in Razrs and enjoy the views!!!

Amazing day hike, definitely stay hydrated and bring a helmet! Gloves are optional. The peak was absolutely lovely! The only down fall was someone took the coin marker was nowhere to be found. Did however still see the ammo crate with signs made up. Would love to see that coin marker someday!

This is my 2nd climb in Mt. Sneffles without snow, it was a fun and perfect day with lots of climbers up and down. Mt. Sneffles is one of my favorite 14er in Colorado. Our climb took the normal route. If you’re planning to climb this mountain bring plenty more of water and snacks. Be sure to breathe while descending specifically if you are not used to elevation. Awesome climb! Thanks to the Mt Sneffel Angels - Kyle and Johnny we were able to get up and down safely. The notch to the top is easy but super exposed so if you are afraid of heights like my middle son then stop at the upper saddle. There were so many nice, amazing people who helped our family along the way. This was our first 14er!! It was not easy but doable. Advise start earlier (we started at 8am with clear skies on our descent it started to lightning/rain), bring poles for lower half, and add some hiking cleats as this mountain needs good traction.
