Big Bend National Park encompasses 801,163 acres where the Rio Grande makes a dramatic turn, creating a landscape of contrasting desert lowlands and mountain woodlands with elevations ranging from 1,800 feet along the river to 7,832 feet at Emory Peak in the Chisos Mountains. The Hill Country region features rolling limestone hills, spring-fed rivers like the crystal-clear Guadalupe and Frio, and unique geological formations including Enchanted Rock—a massive pink granite batholith rising 425 feet above the surrounding terrain.
