About This Adventure Destination

Hillside Singletrack Trails near Anchorage, Alaska, present a dynamic outdoor playground known for its extensive network of singletrack mountain biking paths weaving through vibrant boreal forests. This natural area, lying just beyond the urban limits of Alaska's largest city, offers riders a unique chance to venture into wilderness landscapes with views stretching toward Cook Inlet and chiseled mountain ridges. The trails traverse a variety of terrain—from rolling forested hills to rocky knolls dotted with native spruce and birch trees—creating a blend of technical challenges and flowing sections that appeal to riders of all skill levels. The area also provides habitat for diverse Alaskan wildlife, including moose and a variety of bird species, making any ride a potential encounter with the region’s native fauna. Originally developed and maintained by local biking communities, these trails serve as a vital recreational resource that combines physical activity with the serene beauty of Alaska’s natural environment. The fading daylight, especially during long summer evenings, casts a warm glow over the treetops, enhancing the scenic experience. As a singletrack trail system, Hillside offers more intimate connection with nature compared to wide multi-use paths, giving visitors a chance to fully absorb the rugged, untamed essence of Alaska’s forests within minutes of Anchorage's city core.

Editorial Assessment

This location is highly valued for its excellent mountain biking trails close to an urban center and the opportunity to combine recreation with wildlife viewing and natural forest landscapes. While it offers a very enjoyable outdoor experience, it does not possess the unique geological formations or rare natural features found in higher-ranked iconic landmarks, thus placing it comfortably in a solid mid-tier score.

Best trails in Anchorage and for groomed natural trails I've never seen any better. They aren't fully man-made perfect flowy trails but they are perfectly worked into the hill and are tremendously enjoyable to ride, weather you want XC, singletrack, or downhill.
