About This Adventure Destination

Baltimore-Annapolis Trail End | Outdoor Recreation in Anne Arundel County

The Baltimore-Annapolis Trail End, located near Arnold in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, marks a popular terminus of the celebrated Baltimore-Annapolis Trail. This rail-trail conversion connects two historic cities and offers a refreshing mix of suburban charm and natural surroundings. The trail, paved and well-maintained, stretches through peaceful woodlands and quiet neighborhoods, making it a favored spot for biking, walking, and jogging. Its accessibility and relative flatness appeal to all skill levels, from casual riders to fitness-focused cyclists.

One remarkable aspect is the trail’s history: it follows an old railroad line, once vital for regional trade, which adds a cultural dimension to the outdoor experience. Along the way, interpretive signs provide insights into local heritage, keeping visitors engaged with the area's past while enjoying modern recreation. The route features varied scenery, including native trees and small wildlife sightings, creating an inviting natural environment on the suburban edge.

The trail is open 24 hours, offering flexibility for early morning or evening visits. While traffic noise from nearby roads is occasionally present, the trail retains a calm atmosphere for exercise and relaxation. Parking can be challenging at some trailheads, especially the southern end near Boulters Road, where signage and access have been criticized. Still, many visitors find the trail’s smooth surface and friendly atmosphere worthwhile for both single outings and repeated visits.

This location stands out among local outdoor spots for its blend of nature, history, and convenient access—ideal for those wanting an active day close to Maryland’s vibrant cities.

Editorial Assessment

While the Baltimore-Annapolis Trail is a fantastic recreational spot for biking and enjoying local history, it does not possess the unique natural characteristics that define iconic global landmarks. Its appeal is rooted in its cultural and historic significance rather than distinct geological formations.

Always a great place to chill after a ride. Lots of activities, skateboarding, playground for the kids, baseball fields, tennis and basketball courts. Plenty of extra parking at the Pascal Senior center just opposite the tennis courts.
