About This Adventure Destination

Reems Creek Falls is a charming natural spot located near Asheville in the scenic mountains of western North Carolina. Known for its gently cascading waters flowing over rugged rock formations, this waterfall offers a peaceful setting that stands out among the area’s outdoor attractions. Unlike the busier falls in the region, Reems Creek Falls is often quieter, providing visitors a tranquil experience amidst lush forests and the fresh mountain air.

The falls themselves are a modest but visually appealing cascade that creates a cooling mist, perfect for a summer visit. Surrounding the creek are rugged ledges and large boulders where visitors can relax, sunbathe, or listen to the steady rhythm of flowing water. The area’s diverse woodland supports native flora and fauna, making it interesting for nature enthusiasts. Local wildlife such as birds, small mammals, and native plants thrive here, adding to the serene forest atmosphere.

Though the waterfall is a highlight, visitors should know that the exact location can be challenging to reach. The falls are near private properties including an active rock quarry, which has caused some access confusion. The recommended way to enjoy Reems Creek Falls is by starting near the French Broad River and hiking upstream along the public creek banks, staying clear of private land. This approach rewards visitors with peaceful creek views and the chance to experience the natural swimming spots nearby.

Reems Creek Falls is a favored spot for locals who enjoy quiet nature breaks and refreshing swim spots off many standard tourist routes. It’s an ideal destination for those seeking calm waters, forested surroundings, and a gentle retreat in North Carolina’s vibrant mountain region.

Editorial Assessment

Reems Creek Falls is a charming local destination with scenic beauty and recreational opportunities. It is a wonderful spot for those seeking nature and tranquility, though it doesn't meet the criteria for being one of the most unique landmarks globally.

CAUTION: Google should update the information for this location, as the map leads you to private property and the people who work there are not friendly...

Epic swimming and jump spot, public fishing stream!!! It is 100% public checked with the the agency on 5/25/2022 to confirm that this swimming hole is definitely not private property!!! Local people just want it for themselves and lie about getting tickets and patrol men when there are none!!! to legally access these falls you just have to hike upstream and stay in the high water marks of the river and banks- go up reems creek starting at the French broad and you can legally go. Do not go on the private property trails through the rock quarry. Under North Carolina law, it is completely legal to hike to Reems Creek Falls as long as you stay strictly within the flowing water and wet stream bed.The Legality of the River HikePublic Trust Waters: Reems Creek is a designated hatchery-supported public trout stream. In North Carolina, the public possesses a permanent right to navigate, wade, fish, and recreate within public trust waterways. The Wet-Foot Rule: You are legally permitted to walk, wade, or swim up the creek. As long as your feet remain in the water or on the wet rocks of the active stream bed or below the high water line, you are exercising your public right of recreation and are not trespassing.Where Trespassing Applies: The property lines of the surrounding private landowners and the nearby rock quarry only dictate the land above the high water line . Stepping out of the water onto the dry embankments above the high water mark around the falls is where civil trespassing laws apply. To reach the falls legally without crossing private land, hikers utilize the following entirely in-water route:The Starting Point: Park at the small pull-off flat near the bridge where Monticello Road / Riverside Drive crosses near the French Broad River. The Approach: Drop directly down into the mouth of Reems Creek from the bridge area. The Hike: Hike approximately 1.5 miles directly upstream through the water or below the high water line. The Terrain: Because you must stay entirely in the waterway, expect a slow-going journey. It takes experienced hikers about an hour to navigate the slick river rocks, logjams, and waist-deep wading pools to finally reach the three-tiered waterfall and its deep swimming hole. ENJOY❤️🙏

Poorly ladled, location is wrong, this is private property. Google should remove it and let local guides relocate it and add correct information.

The map takes you to a quarry that doesn’t not have access to the water. Never found the water fall. Don’t take anything that says private property, the ppl there are rude and don’t take nice to strangers getting lost.

As others have said this is innacurate the directions take you to a fenced off quarry im not sure where the falls is but like one of the other reviews we found a nice little riverside park going further up the road...
