Viewpoint at the Veterans Park. Disappointing that it wasn’t flowing.

Lewiston has a small river walk overlooking Great Falls. The portion by the hotel is safely visible. A portion of it climbs up into the woods as well...honestly, I would avoid this part...it was pretty sketchy up there with some loitering men. Best views are had from veterans memorial park over by the Lewiston sign. There is a paid parking garage nearby but there was plenty of free street parking as well on a Thursday evening. Short walk but worth it for the views.

Great Falls is dry most of the year except for the trickle over by the power plant. However, after a good winter, when the ice and snow melt combines with a few days of rain, it is transformed into something quite spectacular. From 0 to class 8 rapids that are hard to comprehend when standing on the viewing platform right. One can feel the power and see the speed of the water increase as it hits the narrow channel to the right, sometimes shooting spray 100 feet in the air and making beautiful rainbows.
