Natural Escape: Crab Orchard Falls

EXTREMELY POOR trail markings with branches off with no idea where they lead. It's a nice medium difficulty hike from the parking lot to the falls. Rocks around the falls and parts of the trail can be very slippery. What they really need is a kiosk with a map behind glass or otherwise protected showing the different paths - and trail blades or trail markings.

Old trail: very steep, much faster than new trail. We were at a 45° angle walking up. New trail: much longer time wise but because old trail was steep we didn't want to slide down. It has a lot of windy switch backs. Small kids and elderly folks were both on the trail. Down to the water: a bit steeper, moderate hiking level. Trail is a little confusing, there is a switch back that continues after the exit to get to the falls, follow the sound of rushing water. There is a sign that mention loose rocks, that's the trail to the falls! The water: we visited mid August, water was chilly but tolerable. A couple there had swimsuits and sat on the water but didn't stay long! For kids: bring a lunch, water shoes, towels, change of clothes. I wouldn't let my toddler in too far, it goes a few feet deep, the water pools nicely and no one is getting pulled down river super easily. They'd be OK barefoot, I went barefoot but rocks weren't super pleasant so would have preferred shoes!
