We climbed Rumija in two hours early in the morning from the Monastery of St. Sergius of Radonezh, taking our time, stopping for photos and resting. Our group was mixed—young people and those over 50, with an intermediate level of fitness—and encountered no problems. We wore athletic shoes, but trekking boots are generally recommended. The trail is marked throughout. There are poles at the monastery entrance for support, especially useful for the descent. You can borrow them (please leave a donation for the sisters). After Rumija, we walked along the ridge and descended to Stari Bar via Vertlyak Waterfall. The ridge was challenging; we completed the ridge section in four hours and then the descent to Stari Bar took another two hours.

Beautiful! A secluded spot in such a touristy country. Recommended: Start very early with a headlamp and watch the sunrise. The temperature is pleasant in summer, and you won't encounter any cars on the narrow access road. Be sure to follow the trail markers on the descent!

Rumija is definitely worth visiting if you enjoy hiking and beautiful views. The trail is well worth the effort, and the panorama from the summit is absolutely stunning. On a clear day you can see the Adriatic Sea, Lake Skadar and the surrounding mountains. Bring enough water, good hiking shoes and start early if you’re visiting in summer, as there is very little shade. Highly recommended for nature lovers!
