It's definitely not for the faint of heart, but my 5 year old was a trooper (although we had to carry her for about half the hike). Definitely go to the left when the trail forks, or it will be incredibly intense.

Great 4.5 mile loop. There is a back road that accounts for ~0.5 miles of it, but there isn't any cars

This is one of my favorite year round trails in the Coleman Boundary area. The scenery is spectacular in the spring with all the wildflowers blooming. Winter brings a quiet solitude and peaceful experience with hardly anyone around. I recommend taking Staire Branch Trail to the right and coming down the FS road and returning on Walker Branch Trail. This is not a trail for little kids and dogs are supposed to be kept on a leash. Watch for copperheads and rattlesnakes in the summer!

Think it’s closed? Road is marked private drive and is closed off with a rope before the trailhead
