After reaching the summit, you’re greeted by a lush green landscape with a stunning view of the volcanic crater lake. However, compared to my past hiking experiences, the view from the top isn’t particularly vast—it’s more of a scene nestled between mountain ridges rather than a wide, open panorama. The trail isn’t just a casual stroll, but for experienced hikers, it’s not too difficult. For beginners, it’s a good challenge to push their limits. The natural trail mainly consists of damp soil and intertwined tree roots. On rainy days, the path can become extremely muddy, so wearing shoes with good grip is essential. The final stretch to the summit involves climbing over large rocks, which adds a fun and adventurous touch to the hike. The space at the summit isn’t very large. For safety, it’s best to have around 5 to 7 people at a time, assuming they have a normal, healthy body size. Oh, and there’s a unique feature here! Some people hang their old, dirty, or worn-out shoes on the trees at the trailhead. Over time, this has become a distinctive sight of the area—pretty interesting and amusing!

What an experience this hike was. We found a good guide who cost us £40 a person. If you hire a car there’s no need for a guide as the hike is impossible to lose track of the path. However, seeing the crater might need some explaining as the final tiny rock to climb is not intuitive at all. The hike is strenuous and takes 5 hours up and down. Very slippery so wear proper walking shoes, not just trainers. We got caught in a two hour rainforest downpour. You need a lot of water for the trip up. No shops nearby so bring your own water. No taxis waiting nearby so you need to arrange transport. Sight at the top is brilliant. Some clambering up rocks, so this isn’t a gentle walk but it is not technically challenging either. Legs ached for a couple of days after the hike. It’s not easy but not impossible by any means.

4.5 hours round trip. Not the best view at top with guided hike. First half up is hiking. Second half up is vertical climbing.
