Scenic Wonders of Lakeshore Trailhead

We began our hike at the beach and made our way to the campsites, which were about 11 miles out and back. The most stunning part of the hike was the cliffs; the trail to the cliffs was easy and offered beautiful scenery that stretched over a mile. However, once we passed the cliffs and entered the wilderness, the views became nice but weren't nearly as breathtaking. We decided to turn back before reaching the campsite.

Great times in the winter. Make sure you bring crampons. Maybe some snoke shoes if you're going to go out onto the ice and see the ice caves

The trail is officially called the Lakeshore Trail in the Mainland Unit. It follows the shore from Meyers Beach toward Sand Point, becoming fainter beyond the cliffs above the sea caves. There are numerous lookouts above the cliffs. The hike has the best visibility in late fall and winter. In early winter, ice forms along the cliffs from splashing waves and dripping water, providing scenic views. The weather, waves, and drifting ice provide a changing scenery all winter. Large ice packs can blow in for days or weeks at a time, or the water can be open through the coldest of days. While the opportunity to walk on the Lake is irregular and completely unreliable, this trail is a gem and always available for nice scenery. The open views from the high cliff areas are worth the hike, and every visit will provide something new to see. The trail has some rugged sections through several ravines. In winter, it is usually well-packed, but can also get icy. It is about 2 miles to the views from the Meyers Beach trailhead.
