My family and I chose to drive through Chakanut Drive instead of I5 freeway coming back from our Canada trip. This state park is a hidden gem. The park and restroom are well maintained. The weather was gorgeous at the time. We stayed for awhile at the beach to watch the sunset and spotted some people kayaking and paddle boarding. We also saw a seal swimming closer to the shore. There is a camping site nearby and lots of trail to ride your bike or hike. You do need a Discover Pass (State Park pass) or pay the $10 day-pass. The Park Ranger we encountered was very polite and inform us about the rules and preserving nature and wildlife. When we left the state park, we stopped by in one of the viewing point. It will be a hit or miss depending on how fast your driving down. It was south direction and the view of San Juan Island and other ones I don't recall the name of the island but it was a peace and quiet spot to enjoy the view.
