The green lakes trail was super wide, maintained, and honestly really easy to walk straight out to the green lakes. It's also a great place to camp, near the lakes, if you want to climb broken top, south sister, or both! The NPS people at the trailhead were super friendly and let us know that we should leave our permits and NPS card in our windshield, but that we should also take a picture of our permits in case another NPS worker on the trail was checking them. Due to the smoke, few people were on the trail today, but it looked like by the early afternoon, most of the smoke blew up and over broken top (the morning had lots of smoke hovering around broken top, unfortunately). All of the major stream crossings had bridges over them, so no need for water shoes/sandals. The vault toilets at this TH were clean and stocked with TP. We had no issues parking, either. Also, the green lakes trail is pretty much a perfect trail running trail. Mostly flat, no obstacles, clear path.

The starting point for an exceptional hike into the Three Sisters Wilderness. The 4.5 mile hike to the lakes is steep but well worth it. It's an incredibly well groomed trail with a few rocks and very minor stream crossings. The obsidian field on the way up is mind blowing. Take some time when you get there to hike up the side of the South Sister.

We hiked in and took the 7.1 variant to Moraine Lake. The campsites there are more shaded.
