Starting at the Church of the Crucifix, the Costa dell'Arnella is a great stone paved footpath that steadily takes you down to the of Borgo Maggiore. At the bottom of the path, head straight ahead and right up some step steps, you will then reach the start of Sentiero Della Rupe (The Cliff Path). Well worth the walk

The Costa dell'Arnella is a wonderful paved pedestrian street in the middle of the woods that connects the historic centers of Borgo Maggiore and the City of San Marino, with a difference in height of around 100 meters and a length of around 600 metres. It is particularly pleasant on summer days because the route is entirely in the shade and for visitors coming from below it is a dynamic alternative to going up by car or cable car. This route is not suitable (although not impossible) for families with strollers due to the 220 low and wide steps. It is quite challenging uphill due to the gradient which varies between 15 and 25%. Downhill it is suitable for everyone but, especially in the first section, you need to be careful when the surface is wet because it becomes very, very slippery. It can also be traveled at night because it is well lit by frequent street lamps.
