About This Adventure Destination

Known simply as Kitsap Lake, this serene body of fresh water lies within the lush, forested landscape of the Kitsap Peninsula in Washington state. Sitting near Bremerton, Kitsap Lake is a quiet outdoor spot that offers a tranquil escape close to urban amenities. Unlike the larger and more crowded lakes across the region, Kitsap Lake’s compact size and calm waters make it a peaceful retreat for locals and visitors seeking a slow-paced nature experience. The lake’s calm surface reflects the dense evergreen trees that surround it, presenting a classic Pacific Northwest scene. Though modest in scale, Kitsap Lake is a natural freshwater lake bordered by forested areas that provide habitat for diverse bird species and local wildlife. The surrounding ecology is typical of the Puget Sound region, with Douglas fir, western red cedar, and mixed conifer stands framing the water. This lake features a modest shoreline path that allows for gentle walking or light jogging, accompanied by sights of waterfowl and occasional turtles. The absence of heavy boat traffic helps preserve the quiet environment, perfect for leisurely fishing or enjoying nature with pets and children nearby. While swimming may not be recommended due to aquatic weeds and limited beach areas, the lake remains an excellent place for those seeking peaceful outdoor moments. Locally, Kitsap Lake is valued as a family-friendly spot for casual visits, dog walking, and small-scale fishing from boats or shore. Its relatively sequestered yet accessible location makes it a unique natural gem in the Kitsap Peninsula, offering a quiet contrast to the busier waterfront attractions elsewhere in the Puget Sound region.

Editorial Assessment

Kitsap Lake provides a peaceful and accessible natural setting ideal for quiet fishing and relaxed outdoor activities. While it holds local charm and opportunities for wildlife observation, it lacks distinctive natural formations or unique ecological features that would classify it as a top-tier iconic landmark. Its moderate appeal is centered on calm waters and nearby forest surroundings rather than dramatic geological or ecological uniqueness.

Great fishing hole. It's a deep lake I've heard. I've been told it's somewheres around 300'and I've seen some big fish come out of here, and heard some wild tales rippling on the tips of the waves followed by the whispers on the winds. Feeling adventurous? Grab your kayak, life vest, fishin pole and lantern on a full moon night and paddle to the deepest spot with me, put a chunk of meat on the line and drop her down as far as your pole will let it. Then we'll tell a story, or make one up as we go until..... WHAM!! Someone gets a bite or it's just time to go home. Every full moon I'll be at the old boat launch at 10pm for a paddle and fish story this summer
