About This Adventure Destination

The Navajo Loop Trail offers visitors an unforgettable journey through the heart of Bryce Canyon, Utah, a region known for its striking rock formations and desert landscapes. This well-loved 1.3-mile loop trail stands out for its close-up encounters with the park’s signature hoodoos—tall, thin spires of rock formed over millions of years through erosion. These natural towers display vibrant shades of orange, pink, and red, creating a colorful, almost surreal setting that’s unlike anywhere else in the American Southwest.

Hikers are drawn to the trail’s highlights, including the famous Thor’s Hammer, a towering hoodoo balanced on a narrow pedestal that seems to defy gravity. Another key feature is the dramatic Wall Street, a narrow canyon with steep, smooth sandstone walls rising abruptly on both sides. The trail winds through these formations and offers striking views from above and below, creating dynamic photo opportunities and a chance to feel surrounded by nature on all sides.

Along the path, visitors may spot native vegetation such as the tough Bristlecone Pine, one of the oldest living trees in North America. First established in 1928, Bryce Canyon National Park preserves this area’s unique geology and high desert ecosystem, providing insight into the natural history of the Colorado Plateau region. The Navajo Loop Trail is accessible for families and seasoned hikers alike, with moderate elevation changes and awe-inspiring natural scenery around every bend. Its blend of geological wonder and inviting trail conditions makes it a standout destination for those visiting southwestern Utah.

If you're only hiking one trail in Bryce Canyon, make it this one. Descending into the amphitheater completely changes your perspective. Walking between the towering hoodoos feels like stepping into another world, and the famous Wall Street switchbacks are every bit as impressive as they look in photos. We'd definitely recommend combining the Navajo Loop with the Queen's Garden Trail. The extra distance isn't too demanding, and together they offer the best experience Bryce Canyon has to offer. Just remember that what goes down must come back up! The climb to the rim is a good workout, especially at Bryce's high elevation, but the views make every step worth it.

The Navajo Loop is one of the most beautiful hikes in Bryce Canyon and a must-do in the park. From the very first steps, you descend into the heart of the famous hoodoos, revealing landscapes completely different from those seen from the viewpoints. The trail is very well maintained and offers spectacular panoramas throughout. The rock formations are impressive, and the colors change with the light, making each moment unique. We did this hike with two teenagers and an 8-year-old, without any particular difficulties. The return hike requires a bit of effort, but at a leisurely pace, it remains quite manageable. Just remember to bring water and, in summer, it's best to start in the morning to avoid the intense heat. An exceptional hike, suitable for families accustomed to walking, that allows you to discover Bryce Canyon from the inside. Definitely not to be missed.
