The view and complete lack of man made noise is phenomenal, but it is a serious hike. It's, on average, a 13% grade all the way up, and I think the last mile is the steepest. I did it with a 20 pound pack on my back and I was getting seriously gassed in the last mile. On my trip back down I met up with a black bear, so the last 1.1 mile down I did without stopping. It's a fantastic hike that climbs 2300 feet over the trailhead with a view down onto Bryson City at least that many few down below. I would love to do it again, but I would not do it without bear spray. Meeting a black bear at less than 100 feet alone is a little unnerving.

Good 4 mile hike with a nice view of Bryson City down in the valley. Dense rhodo the last mile or so. Got engaged here - would recommend!
