Stayed in the Cairns CBD but decided to spend the day at palm beach cove. We didn't rent a vehicle so we opted for a relatively quick Uber ride in lieu of the bus (the bus is definitely a cheaper option and there are stops right along the beach's esplanade). Early September was a great time to visit - moderate temps, plenty of sunshine, space to stretch out and not be super close to other visitors, and of course the gorgeous panoramic views. There a several dining and snacking options along the esplanade. A multiple stall public bathroom, a life guard present swimming section, and benches and picnic tables add to the appeal. Don't skip a walk out on the jetty or the walkable black rock area just past it it.
