It's very busy on weekends like most of the popular spots off the parkway but the views are tremendous. Pretty strenuous hike on the way up so I'd recommend wearing decent footwear. There's not much in the way of parking at Black Balsam proper but if you go past it you'll end up at a parking lot for Ivester Gap and Sam Knob, you can park there and go back to the Black Balsam trailhead on foot.
