Waterslides of Nature: Los Toboganes, Cochamó

Great destination! Enjoyed the open trail and peaceful outdoor atmosphere.

The place is beautiful and has incredible views of the granite hills, which constantly steal the show. However, the route—13 km uphill and 13 km downhill—didn't seem very user-friendly to me. At the start of the trek, they warn you that it's not a proper trail, but an old muleteer's path, where there's quite a bit of mud and multiple forks in the road. If you don't clearly see the routes, it's very easy to get lost, and in fact, it happens frequently in that area. The natural water slides are gorgeous and something you rarely see elsewhere. The water is freezing cold, but after such a long hike, you definitely have to be brave enough to try it. My recommendation is to go on a sunny day, go with someone, carry a light pack, use trekking poles, and wear good shoes. It's also essential to bring plenty of water, as the "trail" is very poorly marked. Also, there are horses that can carry your pack for $40,000 CLP up to a weight of 60 kg. And if you wish to stay in the La Junta sector, you must book in advance, otherwise they will not let you go up unless you are going for the day.

It's so beautiful, but how to get there is a mystery, haha. It's lucky if it's rained recently because it's a difficult and very long road. Is it worth it? Absolutely. Go with water, food, and a great desire to walk. Important: arrive early!

Moderate difficulty trail. It is advisable to start very early so that you don't get caught by sunset on the trail, as it gets dark earlier because you walk through tunnels of trees.
