I started the hike at the recreation area - the south trailhead. The hike was down the whole way. I counted 488 (or 388, I can't remember now) steps from the bottom to the top. The steps aren't even - some are smaller, some are bigger. Coming in from this th allowed me to see First Falls. Ur coming in from above the falls so u get a sideways view of High Falls. It also puts u right at the base. There is a way down to see First Falls also. Not sure how the trail is from the north th. It would be a good shuttle hike so it could be a point to point hike. If u aren't shuttling, it's an out and back hike.

This was a beautiful, but challenging hike. A bit beyond "moderate". Steep trail with rock steps that were slick after rain. Very well maintained and ample parking with rest room facilities across the street.

I didn't get the chance to go all the way to the falls. It was getting late and I didn't have the time. But the place was kind of trashy starting out, but it got better as you went deeper into the forest. Lots of mushrooms!

It is basically like going down and up a few hundred steep steps. It is strenuous but doable for anyone in good health and would be pretty easy if you do regular cardio. High Falls is beautiful and worth the effort. We saw two snakes.
