Streamside Trail Experience at Sendero Los Quetzales - East Trailhead

We went in July 2026 and hiked the trail to the viewpoint and back. It's hard to get lost because there aren't many other paths; just keep an eye out for the viewpoint entrance on the right. It's the highest point on the trail and is well-marked. It took us about 4 hours (leaving around noon and returning around 4 pm). On the way there, the shuttle dropped us off at the ranger station, but on the way back, you have to walk at least to the entrance of the Three Waterfalls Trail, or even to the entrance of Pipeline. The trail itself is beautiful, with lots of flora and fauna, especially birdwatching, so you have to pay attention. There are several bridges. The climb is tiring and demanding, but totally doable for someone in average physical condition. It costs $5 per person; it's better to pay online because they charge in cash there, but nobody gives you a receipt, and you don't know where the money goes.

Great trail! Wear cozy hiking shoes. So rewarding and great for bird watching.

Beautiful hike through the rainforest with generally well-constructed sections of tree stumps to step over so you don't have to walk through the mud. It took us 4.5 hours to reach the endpoint. It was quite steep at times, and eventually you are at an altitude of 2,500 m. We saw monkeys but didn't hear or see any quetzales. Be aware that this is a shy animal and you need to be lucky if you spot one!

Love this trail. It isn't easy, but it's worth it! We hiked to the lookout point, which took about 2.5 hours there and another 2.5 back. A few things, which might be helpful: 1. There is parking at the ranger station, where you show your permit (which can be bought online). The station also has bathrooms. 2. This isn't an easy trail. It's muddy, and has a lot of incline. Prepare for it. 3. The trail starts around 1.5km from the ranger station. Steep downhill and uphill walk on a rocky road. 4. The first 2km of the trail is very muddy and there is a lot of mosquitos. Don't give up! It does get better... 5. The last 3km to the view point is amazing. Lots of elevation gain, but it's worth every step. Walking through the different levels of the forest and seeing it change as you go up is super cool. Like others, we were the only ones on the trail, which is mind blowing given how excellent this walk is.

Beautiful rainforest trail. Before the mirardor 30min steps up - there is a free camping as well. It can rain a lot. The rangers take care of the way - 5$ entrance fee is fair! They let us start walking even at 3pm.
