I would give 5 stars for this amazing place to walk except on the day we were there, the wind was coming from across the bay, bringing a cloud of polluted air from the refinery in Superior, WI into the park. Instead of aromas of pine and lake water, we were choking on fumes of oil, tar and petroleum.

Nice area to visit. You can bounce between old growth forest and Lake Superior beach with its refreshing breeze. There is poison ivy so stay on the trails; once you get over the dunes to the beach you are clear as well.

Our favorite way to enjoy the beach. Walk past the air strip about a mile, down the first section of gravel & through the first section of trees, & you'll have the beach to yourself.
