★★★★★ Caladesi Island is one of those rare places that reminds you just how beautiful ole Florida was and still is when you get away from the roads, buildings and crowds. The adventure of getting there is half the fun. We walked through knee-deep water, mangroves and natural Florida landscape before coming out onto an absolutely gorgeous stretch of beach. The water was crystal clear, the beach felt wild and untouched, and the fishing was fantastic. We caught trout right from the shoreline and spent the day exploring, fishing and enjoying a piece of Old Florida that feels worlds away from everything, even though it’s right here in Pinellas County! What makes Caladesi even more special is how deeply rooted the island is in history. There are remnants of the old homestead, ancient Native American mounds, and even a freshwater lake tucked away within the island. You get the feeling that you’re walking through layers of Florida history, not just visiting another beach. Caladesi isn’t just a beach. The journey through the mangroves and quiet backwaters, the history, wildlife, lake, and finally emerging onto the Gulf make the whole experience much grander than a beach day. Places like this are exactly why Florida’s state parks are worth protecting. Five stars without hesitation. Bring plenty of water, sunscreen, a fishing rod and a sense of adventure. Good shoes are probably a smart idea, or no shoes at all like we did. Either way, expect to get wet. This is Old Florida at its best.

We went in August 2026 and the beach itself was beautiful the rest of the island was not worth the cost to go over for the day. There were 5 of us so it cost $100 to take the ferry over. The island had a store with a small area to order some food but it was low quality food and the place needed some major updating. The trails were all closed down so you could not use them. They advertise kayaking but they said they could not assist us with a rental because there was only one person working the store that day. They also limit your time on the island to 4 hours. So we paid $100 to go to the beach and had a time limit on how long we could stay. I wouldn't waste your money, just go to any beach, there will be more for food and snacks and cost less.
