Early Industry and Revolutionary War HistoryBeebe's Mills: The park's 60-foot Chapman Falls once powered local grist and sawmills known as "Beebe's Mills" from the 1800s until the mid-1890s. Sons of Liberty Attack: In 1775, the mill site was attacked by the Sons of Liberty because it was owned by pro-British loyalists. A piece of a broken millstone from this event was found near the falls in 2002. The Legend Behind the Name The Devil's Footprints: The park features smooth, cylindrical potholes carved into the rock at the base of Chapman Falls by swirling stones and water. Early settlers believed these circular depressions were hoofprints left by the Devil after he got his tail wet in the waterfall. Dibble's Hopyard: Another theory suggests a tenant farmer named Dibble grew hops in the area for brewing beer, and the name slowly shifted from "Dibble's Hopyard" to "Devil's Hopyard" over time.

Park could use some updating. The white trail wasnt marked properly. My wife and I turned around because we didn’t want to get lost. The path down to the bottom of falls was worn and dangerous. The park should install wooden steps or extend the handrail to the bottom. Walking with my dog, I felt it too dangerous to attempt. We spent about an hour and a half on the grounds and thought we had seen everything, so we left.
