Canyon Adventure at Zebra & Tunnel Trailhead

Great destination! Enjoyed the open trail and peaceful outdoor atmosphere.

Zebra was pretty with some technical scrambling at the end up the dry fall. Tunnel had some water but only shin high.

very nice trail leading to the two canyons. the rock formation is very special, red rocks with lots of holes. worthy the time.

So, the trail is not marked well. Take gps or something with you. It's a long hike. Make sure you have water and sunscreen or a cover-up. The canyon itself was very cool. Turns out I am a little claustrophobic, I was not aware of that until we got into this canyon. Just be aware it gets very narrow.

Amazing slot canyon. Very beautiful. It is a very exposed hike before getting to the canyon, and is pretty difficult to navigate without GPS. You have to pay close attention to the cairns. If you follow the creek bed and study the trail before going, you should be fine. Harsh sun in August. We came in late August 2024 and the canyon was full of water. I waded in the water about 20 feet into the canyon until I could no longer touch the bottom and I had to swim. I’m 5’6”. The canyon gets very narrow and it is hard to swim through because there’s not a lot of room to paddle and there’s no where to grab on, the canyon walls are so smooth. I had to turn back. My husband continued on and he could touch most of the way, he’s 6’3”. He says there were some places even he couldn’t touch though. Once he got to the “zebra” part he had to climb up the walls out of the water. He loved it though, he had a lot of fun. The water is very cold as well, but it was kinda nice to cool off since it was so hot outside. I wouldn’t recommend this hike for dogs. Fairly easy hike on flat ground, not a lot of incline, it’s just the heat that gets you. We did not do Tunnel because we figured it would be full of water as well.
