About This Adventure Destination

Buck Island, located just off the northern coast of St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands, is a stunning natural reserve famous for its vibrant coral reefs and pristine white sandy beaches. This small island is surrounded by clear turquoise waters, making it an exceptional spot for snorkeling and marine life observation. The island’s underwater trail, where visitors can follow a marked path beneath the surface, offers a unique way to admire the flourishing coral formations and colorful tropical fish species that thrive here. Besides its underwater beauty, Buck Island is home to coastal forests with native plant species that provide shelter to sea turtles and various birdlife, adding ecological diversity to the area. The island was designated a National Monument in 1961 to protect its delicate ecosystem and coral reefs, making it one of the earliest marine protected areas in the Caribbean. Visitors are drawn to Buck Island not only for its natural beauty but also for the peaceful, unspoiled environment that offers a quiet alternative to more crowded beaches in the region. The combination of its geological features, bathymetry, and flourishing wildlife makes Buck Island a standout destination on the island of St. Croix.

Editorial Assessment

Buck Island offers a highly distinctive marine environment with its coral reefs and protected natural habitat, making it a superb destination for visitors interested in underwater activities and natural coastal beauty. Can’t recommend a tour to Buck Island enough. It was absolutely stunning. The sand is soft and the water the most beautiful shade of blue. We saw turtles, stingrays, and cool fish!

Our Buck Island tour was easily one of the best parts of our trip—10/10! The entire experience was well organized, and the crew was friendly, knowledgeable, and made sure everyone had a great time. The snorkeling was incredible! The water was crystal clear, and seeing the colorful fish and coral reef up close was an unforgettable experience. It truly felt like swimming in paradise. The only thing I wish we had done was the hiking trail, but we decided to spend more time enjoying the water instead. That's just another reason for me to come back! If you're visiting St. Croix, a Buck Island tour is an absolute must. The views, the snorkeling, and the overall experience are worth every penny.
