Beautiful 8.5 mile hike through the valley floor, up to a granite slab with a fantastic view, along side a roaring river with increasing elevation as you near the falls. We rested at the base of the falls, then made one final push upward to stand next to it. It’s 919 ft total elevation gain. This last push is worth it, IMO. My 77 year old mom made the hike. We took our time in the afternoon which gave us greater shade and less people on the trail. Bug spray or wipes are helpful in the shady parts. This is THE hike to do in Kings Canyon!

Wed 6/3/26: Mist Falls is definitely a top highlight of Kings Canyon! The views rival that of Yosemite and the waterfall will drench you, offering much needed respite from the heat. Start this trail as early as you can to beat the heat. The earliest my group could make it was 10 am and by noon, the temperature was climbing into the mid-80’s. First half of the trail is flat and mostly unshaded. Second half past the fork is mostly shaded but has long stretches of exposed granite stairs. Don’t underestimate the difficulty; most of the second half is an incline and even if the incline itself is okay, the heat makes it harder. Bring lots of water (at least 3 bottles) and sun protection. Bring bug repellent as well; lots of mosquitos. We climbed past the falls to near the top. Actual mileage is ~9 miles. Took my group 5.5 hrs to finish including lunch and photo stops. Trail is well-maintained and easy to walk/follow. Parking by the Mist Falls trailhead was pretty full- only a few spots left. Pit toilets.

It was flowing water to the fullest today May 26th it was sooo beautiful to witness To get to Mist Falls is a 4.6 moderate hike total of 9.2 miles. I recommend to use insect repellent and bring 3-4 water bottles. Be vigilant about your surroundings this is a area were you can see bears, deers variability of fauna for example today we saw a rattlesnake and a small coral. Enjoy your hike!!
