Known for its sharp elevation gain and rewarding vistas, this trail attracts hikers seeking a physical challenge combined with stunning natural beauty. The trail ascends roughly 2,000 feet over just about 2.3 miles, making it a rigorous but highly satisfying climb for fitness buffs and nature lovers alike.

The route passes through thick forests and alpine meadows, where vibrant wildflowers bloom during summer months. Along the path, hikers might spot local wildlife such as moose and evidence of bear activity, adding an exciting wildlife element to the trek. The trail also includes scenic switchbacks and wide stair-like steps that help manage the steep terrain, making it easier on the knees of climbers. At the summit, visitors are rewarded with panoramic views of Turnagain Arm, jagged mountain peaks, and the town of Girdwood spread out below.

The trail’s endpoint leads to amenities including a museum, gift shop, restaurants, and a tram station, where hikers can enjoy a well-earned meal or relax after the climb. Notably, the tram offers a free ride down for those who make the ascent on foot.

Great trail! Steep elevation gain over just two miles of trail. Saw three moose, a bull, a momma, and a baby. Lot's of evidence of bear activity as well. The hike rewards you with beers up top and a free tram ride down.
