From Leland by ferry South Manitou Island offers many unique sights and attractions and has a very diverse and rich forest floor as there are no deer on the island. The round trip hike of 6.9 miles from the Ranger Station to the old growth White Cedar forest is highly recommended and on the way you will also see the shipwreck Morazan. Some ancient white cedars are 350 years old and possibly 900 years old. Spectacular sandy beaches stretch for miles. Soaring perched sand dunes are on the west side of island. Park pass required. No dogs. No food for sale. Clean restrooms, drinking water and picnic tables are available at the Visitor Center.
