This is not a challenging hike. Felt more like a stroll through the desert for me with a few areas with decent incline. Great views along the way. I arrived at 5 am to an empty parking lot. Even when I left it was still very empty. There were several areas where it looked like the trail split off into another trail, so without a good map, you might end up headed the wrong way. I took my time on this one and attempted some meditation in a cave adjacent to the Wave Cave, so I was on the trail for about 4 hours, but it could be done in far less than that if you stay focused.

Plan out your hike. Bring water. If you are half way through your water. Turn back. It might be three miles. But don't be fooled by it. The switchbacks are tough. Plenty of rocks and places to slip. Wear appropriate shoes. Not tennis shoes, sandals or flip flops. If you bring kids. Bring the proper clothes along with the shoes. Not tennis shoes. The walking is not bad. The first mile is easy. The second mile gets a bit stepper. The third mile is a scramble up to the top. The path has rocks, Cactus and small pebbles. Be cautious when walking. The views are magical. But please take water.

My favorite hike in all of Arizona! The view within the cave overlooking Arizona is to die for! So breathtaking! Very easy beginner hike too, just be aware there is an area you may have to climb upwards to continue on the path.

Nice hike. Need to drive to the next parking area since the wave cave original parking close March 2026 for good so now you have a long traverse until you get to the original trail. Next, it’s a gradual slope incline through a few boulders. It finally ends with a class four scramble, which can be tricky on the way down, avoiding small rocks so you don’t slide.
