If you come in winter, you can experience unexpected trekking and frozen lakes. It takes about 50 minutes to get to the lake from the parking lot entrance. Walking is not difficult and is worth doing. Some people come wearing crampons on their feet, but it was okay even without them.

We've done the hike out to Trillium Lake several times, always in December. The snow covered trees are spectacular. We usually take some birdseed with us and feed the little birds on the deck just past the campgrounds. The hike is mostly level with some gentle inclines in places. We usually wear spikes on our shoes to navigate any icy patches.
