Upper Piney Falls

Our hike on this trail was a fantastic adventure, but here are a few tips for fellow explorers! When you reach the split, note the following: Left: easy Right: challenging We unknowingly took the right path and found ourselves in for a tough, yet rewarding trek. It involved some unexpected climbs and a few moments where the trail was easy to lose, but completing the full loop was well worth the effort. Even though the falls were mostly dried up due to the lack of rain, the surrounding area’s beautiful rock formations and classic Tennessee views more than compensated. We can’t wait to return when the falls are in full flow, as it looks like there are at least 3-4 to enjoy. I’m giving this trail 4 stars because it could benefit from better trail markings, and a hint at the fork about the difficulty levels would be great. For an easier walk, take the left path at the fork and consider returning the way you came after reaching the falls. This trail is a hidden gem in Tennessee's natural beauty, and it's a joy to see that the stunning rock structures remain untouched by graffiti. Highly recommended for all nature lovers – we’ll definitely be back!

Don't follow signs or the extra trails people have made stay to the right to get there.

Type in 800 Firetower Rd, once you “arrive” it’ll be 3 minutes straight beyond that address (there’s no post address at the precise trailhead). You’ll see designated parking on the right and there will be a sign. Lollipop trail. Recommend walking the loop portion clockwise. If you start taking a right at the fork you’ll be dangerously climbing down. While steep, seems safer to climb up. Bring bug spray 😜

I clicked on the icon for upper pinney falls and it unfortunately took us to some forest road that did not go to the falls. Google should fix this because it’s completely misleading.

Just completed trip to Piney Falls today, June 22, 2024. The water fall was dried up. Very little water. Enjoyed the hike. It was a "moderate" hike of about 40 minutes. There are signs to stop and worth the read. Also marker and pointer signs to help you take the correct trails. People with bad knees or who have had knee surgeries I recommend not taking this hike. My first time visiting and both trails to upper and lower Piney Falls would be very challenging to people with any kind of walking issues. I hope to make sure the water is abundant and flowing before I go again to see the waterfall.
