About This Adventure Destination

High Falls is a striking natural attraction located near Grove Oak in the scenic Sand Mountain region of Alabama. This 35-foot waterfall, flowing over rugged rock ledges into a clear pool, stands out for its raw beauty and calm atmosphere amid gently rolling hills and farmland. The waterfall is part of the Cumberland Plateau, whose exposed sandstone and shale formations contribute to the area's dramatic landscape. The park surrounding High Falls features a historic covered bridge upstream, adding a cultural touch and photo opportunity to the outdoor experience. The peaceful setting is home to diverse plants and wildlife, with visitors often spotting birds and small animals among the trees and rock outcrops. The clear water invites swimming and wading, especially on warmer days, and visitors often share fond memories of jumping off sun-warmed rocks or relaxing by the pool beneath the falls.

Well-loved by locals and visitors alike, the park is supported by a friendly gift shop staffed by knowledgeable caretakers who encourage contributions to help maintain access to this treasure. Been going for 15 years and this was horrible. Shout out to the fine folks working at High Falls County Park-Grove Oak, Al who found it fit to yell curses and names at a woman, a baby, and three kids under 9yo for not sprinting up a hill 15 minutes before closing while people were still down swimming; all because they wanted to leave early. Disgusting what a tiny bit of power will do to a boomer.

Pretty place to cool off. Very short walk to the falls with shallow area to get your feet wet. Those more daring can jump off the falls at your own risk.
