Discovering the Heights of Passage Peak

This hill on the eastern tip of Hamilton Island is a scenic viewpoint called "Passage Peak," offering magnificent ocean views and a panoramic view of Hamilton Island itself. In fact, the sea stretching out below Passage Peak (the waterway between Hamilton Island and Whitsanday Island) is a crucial part of the "Passage" that Captain Cook traversed in the Endeavour on June 4, 1770. This highest peak on the eastern tip of Hamilton Island (237m above sea level) overlooks the vast "Whitsanday Passage" that Captain Cook passed through and named, and was later given its name by the surveyors mentioned later. This hill on Hamilton Island was named "Passage Peak" because it offers the most beautiful view overlooking the historic sea route (passage) that Captain Cook traveled. Incidentally, while Captain Cook named the waterway "Whitsundy Passage," he didn't individually name the surrounding islands. He simply named the group of islands collectively the "Cumberland Islands," after the British Duke at the time. Later, in the 1800s (around 1866), when other British Navy survey ships (such as the Salamander) came to create detailed maps, other islands were given individual names, such as "Whitsundy Island" because it was the largest island next to the Whitsundy Passage that Captain Cook had passed through. This hill on Hamilton Island was also named "Passage Peak" at this time. Standing at the top of Passage Peak, you are greeted with a 360-degree panorama, and below you stretches the very same blue sea route (passage) that Captain Cook traversed in 1770 with his white sails. Considering this, in addition to the beautiful scenery before you, you can even sense the romance of history!

It's a moderate climb, but totally worth it for the amazing views.

Great views across the Whitsundays from the top. The climb is steep but relatively short and clean path with stairs. Easy for a fit adult. My 5 year old girl managed to climb to the top herself

Fantastic views! The path to the top is well-maintained, so I managed it even in sandals, but it would definitely be better and easier with proper shoes. It gets a bit steep towards the end, but the effort is well worth it. The stated time of one hour (one way) is a bit of an exaggeration, but if you take your time, you can do it in that time.
