The park is very nice, but the road to get there is in terrible condition, even with a 4x4 the climb was complicated, and adding that luckily the road was dry, I can't imagine what it would be like in winter.

Today we hiked to the Barva Volcano, starting from Cinco Esquinas de Carrizal, a total of 18KM challenging. We began to ascend through Carrizal about 9KM to the entrance of the park, with steep terrain and it was quite strong, I recommend it for people with very good physical condition and attitude. When we arrived at the entrance we made the reservation and from there it is about 3KM towards the Barva Volcano lagoon. 6KM in total round trip without counting any trails, or the visit to Copey lagoon (+2KM). Inside the park everything is well demarcated and the terrain is not very irregular, suitable for anyone who wants to walk, but we were already finished 🤣 I really would like this Volcano to be valued more, it has a unique enchanted forest vibe, everything disappears in the mist. The journey by car along the main street is quite irregular...but I think other comments exaggerate (unless that was the case before), with an all-terrain vehicle and patience you can reach the park, or if there are no public parking lots further down and you would have to walk up, it also depends on the objective. As our objective was to practice for Chirripó, the route through Carrizal is excellent, but it is complicated and completely exhausts one.
