Great trail to hike and lots of beautiful sights to see on the way to the falls. Exposed roots and rocks require caution when walking but nothing unexpected. There’s a long and shorter way to get to the falls. I’ve hiked both multiple times and always enjoy the experience. Word of caution: if it’s rained a lot the trail can be wet in areas. I haven’t encountered anything that’s prevented me from completing my hike but I have encountered some muddy patches after heavy rains. That said, great trail. Lots of fun.

Such a wonderful place to come hike. One of my favorite trails to come to in Western NC. A variety of birds and wildflowers on a moderately challenging trail. Don’t be worried if the gate is closed and you can’t get past, just walk around it and continue straight to get to the trail. There will then be a little loop area of parking, walk up that and the trailhead is right there (see my map below). Overall, the trail was great except for some steep parts at the beginning and some water crossings that you have to carefully maneuver your way around. The hike is well worth it though. At the junction about .8 miles into the trail, take the left to get quicker to the falls. Beautiful falls when running. Great place for picnicking as well. If coming from highlands, make sure to check out dry falls and bridal veil falls as well. Truly recommend coming here. FYI, right before you get to the falls (highlighted yellow in my second map titled junction and steepness) there is a junction, with trail signed leading you two different ways. You can take either way, and both of them are about the same distance. This is a great place to have a sack lunch and/or drinks.
