I had an incredible four day trek in the Altas mountains with AMT. First, Jamal went above and beyond to coordinate my trip, going as far as to schedule it with just a day's notice. My guide, Abdul, was an expert in both the geography and culture of the area, and answered my incessant questions throughout the trek. Traveling through both high mountains and small villages on the same trip was an experience I won't soon forget. All logistics of the trip ran smoothly, and it was easy to get to and from Marrakesh as well as have my dietary restrictions accommodated. Truly an exceptional trip with a remarkable staff!

We just got back from the M’goun circuit with atlas mountain trekking. The trek itself was great with beautiful scenery, particularly the summit day and the following day we spent walking through one of the valleys. However the communication from Jamal was really poor. We originally booked this trek in November for May (we are always well organised!) and understood that everything was booked in for a 7 day itinerary and we sent the deposit. Just over 4 weeks before our trek, having had zero communication, we asked for a packing list and what we need to be aware of. Jamal responded by asking us to reconfirm the start date of our trek, suggesting that we had asked to start 3 days before our confirmed date (the day before we were due to arrive in the country). When we pushed back and provided screenshots of the original conversation, he told us that our original dates were not possible due to overlapping with the start of Eid and that we had to shorten to a 6 day itinerary. Obviously we understand that people are on holiday at this time but we’d expect him to have checked this before telling us it’s ok when we originally booked. He was also inflexible with the dates to rearrange, mentioning that we had to go with an existing transport. It wasn’t until we showed up on the day that we understood that we had been merged with another group despite asking for a private tour. Our group turned out to be lovely and we were glad we were with them but Jamal was not honest about this in advance. We were not told any information without asking the correct questions, which we did not always know to ask. The group we were merged with also experienced similar issues with communication with regards to the organisation of their trip. My partner cannot eat gluten, which we understood could be a big problem in Morocco. We told Jamal about this multiple times and were assured that it was fine and would be taken care of. However when we started the trek it was clear that the guide had no idea about this and had not provisioned for a gluten free diet. This meant that my partner did not get anywhere near enough carbs, which over the days took it’s toll. Had Jamal been honest, we’d have bought more gluten free carbs ourselves to compensate and it would not have been a problem. Another example is that it wasn’t until we arrived in the region and we saw that there was still snow on top of the mountains, that i asked the guide, is it safe to go up without crampons, that he told us that he had crampons for us. My partner had never warn crampons before and we encountered a couple of quite exposed icy traverses on the way on our ascent. I think a responsible company would have given us the correct information in advance so that we could judge the risk properly for ourselves. We did not wear the crampons in the end (I’d argue that we probably needed them for a couple of bits), but we didn’t have crampon compatible boots and half the group had never warn them before so this was very fortunate. Our guide himself slipped on the ice at one point and slid into a valley, luckily this didn’t happen on one of the sections with a cliff, but he grazed his hand quite badly on the way down. He quickly made his way back to us with blood all over himself. It was at this point we realised that he didn’t have a first aid kit and neither did any of us. If we had been going up without a guide I’d always bring one, but i wrongly assumed that the guide would take care of this. Luckily a Basque group were right behind us and were able to bandage up our guide. To his credit he insisted on carrying on and safely escorted us to the summit and down again. But we are all too aware that it could have been a tragic disaster.

We did the Azzaden Valley 2 Day Trek. Our Guide Abdlatif was really nice as well the cook and muleteer Hamid. He prepared our meals, breakfast, delicious Tajine and omelette. Very big portions, you definitely won’t starve! We would book again. Thanks a lot for that experience

Myself and a fellow female friend went on the Big Tour Around Toubkal, 12 day trek. We had an absolutely incredible time - trip of a lifetime. Our guide Abdul made us feel so looked after and safe. The food and accommodation were great. The views and route were beautiful. Thank you for an amazing trek - I couldn't recommend it more.
