Discovering Gaping Gill: Nature's Majestic Cave in the Yorkshire Dales

Great destination! Enjoyed the open trail and peaceful outdoor atmosphere.

Interesting location. Due to the terrain we coupd or didn't dare get close enough to look right down to the bottom but still a quirky landmark

What a fantastic experience. We went down on Tuesday 18th August. The pothole club had everything so well organised and all the volunteers were so friendly. Take good waterproofs, sandwiches and a flask.

An absolutely amazing experience, would totally recommend it. I booked to tickets months ago, it's a 2 mile walk from Clapham to Gaping Gill, you need to take waterproofs, warm clothes and food. The wait was not too long, I arrived in plenty of time and was checked in by the friendly volunteers. We were shown instructions on using the winch chair. It was very exciting, when my time came, I sat in the chair, the trapdoor opened and down I went. The first part is a narrow chimney, the cave opened up... It is was amazing... it can fit St. Pauls Cathedral in to... It is huge ... The rocks there are many 100s of millions of years old, some formed when this part of the world was on the equator I spent ages in there, just trying to take it all in. Its an experience that you just need to do ! The walk back seemed to fly by

The reviews did not disappoint me. I booked the tickets in advance online, the team I met was very friendly and helpful. The whole experience was great, and good stuff I took the waterproof jacket as you can get splashed with water whilst there. Oh, the head torch came handy too.
