Discover the Majesty of Berner Oberland Pass

I spent two weeks in the Bernese Oberland enjoying fantastic weather, 10 of those days using the Regional Pass. Anyone wanting to explore the Bernese Oberland should definitely buy this pass. It includes the Brienzer Rothorn, Schynige Platte, Niesen, Schilthorn, and boat trips on Lake Thun and Lake Brienz. If that's not enough, you can also visit Männlichen, Stockhorn, and even the Lötschental valley with a train ride to Brig. The PostBus journeys to Grosse Scheidegg and Bussalp are truly spectacular. Admittedly, the price isn't exactly cheap for tourists from the Eurozone, but it's absolutely worth it! Children travel for €30, making it highly recommended for families as well.

We visited Switzerland expecting the organization and reliability the country is known for, but unfortunately our experience with the Berner Oberland Pass and Jungfraubahnen was extremely disappointing. On April 22, 2026, our group (7 adults and a 1.5-year-old child) was removed from the train between Wengen and Kleine Scheidegg despite the official Berner Oberland Pass system confirming that the route was included. Even after presenting the official confirmation, we were forced to leave the train quickly and remained outside in cold weather with a small child, without proper support or guidance. What was most frustrating was the lack of coordination between official information and operational enforcement, as well as the complete absence of response to our formal complaints afterward. We hope future travelers receive clearer information and better support. This situation was never about receiving a “goodwill gesture” or a favor. It is about fairness, accountability, and the fact that there was clearly a serious failure in the official information system. The official Berner Oberland Pass AI system confirmed that the Wengen–Kleine Scheidegg route was included before, during, and even after the incident. A Jungfraubahnen employee in Wengen confirmed the same information again afterward and printed it for us as evidence. Despite this, our group of 7 passengers — including a 1.5-year-old child — was removed from the train and left outside in cold weather conditions. The issue is not goodwill. The issue is that tourists relied on official information provided by your own system and were treated as if they were traveling incorrectly. I sincerely hope future travelers receive clearer, more reliable, and operationally consistent information.

No longer worth the price tag, I’ve spent hundreds of francs just to have pay more for “special reductions.” Most of the sites of interest, aren’t covered. I don’t know, it just feels like I’m being swindled, especially compared to last year’s coverage. I’d heed the advice of the many travel bloggers and pinpoint your funds on certain gondolas.
