I visited for the first time because there was a special exhibition. I heard that we could tour the outdoor artworks with a curator's explanation starting at 2:30 PM, so I decided to participate. The art exhibition began with the Chinese lantern plant sculpture at the entrance and a bench-like structure made of lava (this is also an artwork, by an artist who is a descendant of Fukuzawa Yukichi). (After listening to the explanation, looking straight at the row of magnolia trees that stretches beyond the building on the way back might give you a different perspective…) We spent an hour touring and listening to the explanations, and I was first surprised by the vastness of the grounds. I learned that the artists didn't bring finished works here, but rather visited the site first and created works specifically for this location, tailored to the environment, which I found very enjoyable. My companion and I agreed that visiting during the colder months would offer a different way to enjoy the artworks located in the forest. There are over 20 works, so if you have the time, I highly recommend participating. You're sure to be moved by the artworks that make the most of this location.

The weather was nice, so I was able to visit almost everything, which was great. There's quite a bit of walking involved, so I recommend wearing athletic shoes!
