A truly disappointing experience. The nature here is increasingly being built over — ugly, thoughtless accommodations are popping up everywhere, completely at odds with what is otherwise a stunning landscape. Little remains of the untouched nature that actually draws people here in the first place. Especially disturbing was the treatment of the horses on site: we repeatedly witnessed animals being beaten, and many appeared severely malnourished. This really put a damper on the stay. Even as a hiker, it's hard to enjoy the trail in peace. Drivers from the village constantly haul tourists up the mountain in old, extremely fume-heavy cars. After a four-hour hike, it felt like we'd smoked a pack of cigarettes ourselves — the exhaust fumes were that bad. The drivers themselves also drive very aggressively. On the way back, we witnessed one of them hit a sheep with his car and just keep driving without stopping. Overall, there's currently a real gold-rush atmosphere here — many locals seem to take every opportunity to make as much money as possible from tourists with as little effort as possible. Unfortunately, I can't recommend a visit right now for anyone who cares about nature or animal welfare.

Unfortunately horses look very miserable and very thin. Very, very “touristy”. I do not recommend spending the night there - though the hike to Altyn Arashan is beautiful.
